Next Step: How to Write a Letter
Firstly, we showed you how to think like a lawyer.
Then we gave you the magic first sentence to make clear to you and the reader the purpose of your correspondence.
Then we gave you an example of how to do it.
Now let’s talk about the content of the letter.
I’ve written books, newsletters, blog articles, copy, radio newscasts, tv shows, and short stories plays, and legal documents.
I remember once I wrote a major ruling for the FCC with 50 paragraphs.
My boss read it and said, “This is good, James.”
“But it doesn’t hang together”.
“You have 50 separate stories here. And they are not connected.”
“I want you to tell the reader one story with a beginning, middle, and end.”
“So that by the end he is nodding his head in agreement.”
“Your writing has to flow from one paragraph to the next.”
